Julie started her training career as an apprentice at a kennel that housed and worked with rescue dogs. Most of the dogs were from German shepherd rescues but she also worked with other strong breeds such as Rottweilers, Akitas, Dobermans, Pit Bulls and some smaller mix breeds. She learned training with some of the most difficult dogs in a very specific style of correction training. Most of the training was compulsion based and wasn’t what she enjoyed or agreed as the best methods.
Julie searched for new techniques and more of a positive approach. She began teaching puppy kindergarten classes on the weekends and learned how to train using science based, positive reinforcement techniques. Through the years she has blended the two styles and came to a balance while leaning towards a very gentle positive approach. Julie has years of experience teaching group classes, doing private in-home training and handles the majority of the dogs in the board and train program. She also conducts day training and brush up lessons at the Tustin location of Ruff House Pet Resort.
Her favorite dogs to work with are high energy breeds with lots of pep. She loves to harness that energy and change into intense focus. Julie became a Certified Professional Dog Trainer in 2015 and a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator in 2016. She lives in Newport Beach with her puppy Ruka and is committed to ongoing education and learning everything she can about this fascinating field.
