Meet our Dog Trainers

Ruff House Pet Resort employs full-time, Certified Dog Trainers that are skilled at working with all dog breeds. They attend continuing education sessions as a way to stay current with training techniques and methods. We are members of The Association of Professional Dog Trainers and The International Association of Canine Professionals.
The training methods and tools may vary depending on the dog and specific issues. Our trainers are balanced in their teachings and believe there is a variety of effective tools that can be used to train a dog. We use positive reinforcement and leadership skills to teach dogs to follow our lead. They get rewarded for following cues and responding to commands. In turn they begin offering good behaviors.

At Ruff House Pet Resort, our goal is to make training fun while still following a structured plan of mental and physical exercise, training and rewards.

Service Areas: Tustin, Irvine, Costa Mesa, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Lake Forest, Orange, Santa Ana and surrounding cities

Certifications:
Certified Professional Dog Trainer, CPDT-KA
AKC-Canine Good Citizen Evaluator
Training Cesar’s Way, Fundamentals I

Contact: julie@ruffhousepetresort.com

Julie started her training career as an apprentice at a kennel that housed and worked with rescue dogs. Many were German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Akitas, Dobermans, Pit Bulls and some smaller mixed breeds. She learned training with some of the most difficult dogs in a very specific style of training. The methods were compulsion based, hard corrections, and one-size fits all. She didn’t enjoy that style of training and disagreed with some of the methods.

Julie searched for new techniques and more of a positive approach. She began teaching puppy kindergarten classes on the weekends and learned how to train using science based, positive reinforcement techniques. Over the years she blended the two styles and came to a balance while leaning towards a gentle, more positive, approach.  Julie has several years of experience teaching group classes, private in-home training and handles the majority of the dogs in the Board and Train Program. She also conducts day training and brush up lessons at the Tustin location of Ruff House Pet Resort.

Her favorite dogs to work with are high energy breeds with lots of pep. She loves to harness that energy and change into intense focus. Julie became a Certified Professional Dog Trainer in 2015 and a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator in 2016. She lives in Newport Beach with her puppy Ruka and is committed to ongoing education and learning everything she can about this fascinating field.
