Group Training Classes

Ruff House Pet Resort in Riverside offers several obedience classes to meet the needs of all our customers.

Our Certified Dog Trainers are educated and experienced with obedience training and behavior modification. You may choose to begin with Puppy Class and advance to Basic Obedience and then Canine Good Citizen.

Pack Walk

Date: summer date TBD $25
Location: Riverside

Join us for a pack walk. We’ll meet at a public place and practice loose leash walking, heel, collar pressure, leash reactivity and manners. This is a good way for you to meet new people while exercise and bonding with your dog. You will receive guidance while walking to help you with technique and form. We may pair you with another dog to provide direction and balance. We strongly believe that the daily walk is one of the most important times to work on training your dog.

Puppy Socialization Class

Date: April 24th, 2017  Mondays at 6:00pm (4 week class)
Location: Riverside Training Room-Ruff House Pet Resort
Requirements: 10-20 weeks of age + first 2 sets of shots

Puppy Socialization Class is designed for young puppies. Learning socialization with dogs and people, manners, introductions to new surfaces, sights, sounds, and surroundings. Basic handling skills will be taught each week as well as fun and games.  This is a great class for anyone that wants to get ready for basic obedience class and eventually become a Canine Good Citizen (CGC).

Basic Obedience Class

Location: Riverside Training Room-Ruff House Pet Resort
Register: $135

6 week training program where dog owners work one-on-one with their dogs,  in the group classroom setting, to gain understanding and control. Basic Commands using verbal cues and hand signals include sit, down, off, stay and leash walking. Advanced training or Canine Good Citizen are the next step in our series of group classes.

AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Class

Date: May 11th 2017, Thursdays at 6pm (6 week class)
Location: Riverside Training Room-Ruff House Pet Resort
Prerequisite: Basic Obedience and good control of your dog
Register: $150

Canine Good Citizen is an organized AKC program teaching your dog manners and social skills in a public setting. Dogs must learn all the commands and be on cue during distractions, distance, and duration periods. At the end of class your dog will take a 10 point evaluation by an AKC Certified Evaluator and can earn the CGC Certification.

AKC Trick Dog Class (Novice)

Date: May 25th 2017, Thursdays at 6pm (6 week class)
Location: Riverside Training Room-Ruff House Pet Resort
Prerequisite: Basic Obedience and friendly with other dogs/people
Register: $135
Trick Dog Novice is the 1st class in the AKC Trick Dog series of 4. Your dog will learn at least 10 skills from the Novice list: Balance beam, Bark on cue, Crawl, Fetch it and give, Find it,  Get your Leash, Get in, Get on, Hand signals (down, sit, or come), High five, Hold,  Jump thru a low hoop, Kennel up, Kiss, Paws up, Push-ups, Shake hands, Spin in circle, Touch it, Tunnel. At the end of class your dog will perform 10 tricks in the presence of an AKC approved Evaluator.

AKC Community Canine Advanced (CGCA Title) Class

Location: Riverside Training Room-Ruff House Pet Resort and some public outings
Prerequisite: Completed Canine Good Citizen Class
Register: $165

AKC Community Canine is an advanced level of the Canine Good Citizen Program. In AKC Community Canine Class, dogs learn the advanced version of the initial 10 manners taught during CGC. Dogs can earn the CGCA (Advanced CGC) title. The goal of AKC Community Canine is to test the dog’s skills in a natural setting not a show ring. AKC Community Canine, the “walks through a crowd” test item will involve the dog walking through a real crowd at a dog show, on a busy sidewalk, at a training club or in a local park. Therapy Dog Class (not the same as service dog training)

Date: Saturday June 24, 2017 from 2pm-5pm (1 day class)
Location: Riverside Training Room- Ruff House Pet Resort
Prequisite: Completed Canine Good Citizen Class, at least 1 year of age
Register: $150

Therapy dogs provide a service to the community through volunteer work at hospitals, assisted living homes, and programs for developmentally disabled children and adults. If you want to train your dog to become a volunteer in the community you will need to get certified. This class provides hands on therapy practice work and helps prepare for the Therapy Dog Certification. We’ll guide you through the process and requirements for therapy dogs and help you understand the ins and outs of therapy dog work.
